Packing your dorm room does not have to be a headache. With a little planning and the right storage solutions, you'll be out the door and on to your next adventure in no time. Need extra space? Contact us at Coos Bay Storage at Englewood!
1. Start Early
Don't wait until the night before move-out day. Give yourself plenty of time, at least a week, to start sorting through your belongings. Starting early means you'll have time to decide what to keep, toss, donate or store-and you won't be stuffing random things into garbage bags in a rush to move out.
2. Declutter Before You Pack
There is no point in packing things you do not use or need. Be honest with yourself while going through your belongings. If you did not wear it, use it, or even notice it all semester, it probably does not need to come with you. Decluttering now saves you time, space and hassle later.
3. Use Bins Over Boxes (When You Can)
Plastic storage bins are sturdier, stackable and reusable. These qualities make them perfect for dorm packing. They are also great if you are planning to use a storage unit over the summer. They provide a clear picture of the items you are storing, making access to you items a breeze.
4. Label Everything
It sounds simple, but makes a world of difference. Labeling your boxes and bins is a huge time saver. Write down what is inside and which room its for, so when you are ready to move back you are prepared and ready to go. If you are using a moving company, add your name and contact information just in case things get mixed up.
5. Protect Fragile Items Properly
Wrap fragile items like mugs, mirrors, and electronics with bubble wrap, towels, or clothes to keep these items protected. If you use movers or just have help from family and friends, they know to handle these items with care. Lastly, your items are less likely to break or crack if some one does have an accident and drops a box.
6. Keep Essentials Separate
You don't want to be digging through boxes just to find your toothbrush. Pack small a essentials bag with everything you may need for the next couple days: clothing, toiletries, chargers, important documents etc.
7. Consider a Storage Unit for the Break
If you are going home for the summer or taking a gap semester, renting a short-term storage unit can be a lifesaver. It means less stuff to drag back and forth, and you won't have to cram everything into a loved ones garage. At Coos Bay Storage at Englewood, we offer affordable and secure storage options with flexible terms- so you can focus on your break, not your boxes.
